In a significant step towards strengthening cooperation in hunting, wildlife conservation, and corporate social responsibility, His Excellency Habibu Awesi Mohamed, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to the State of Qatar, met with His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Faisal Al -Thani, President of the Safari Club International (SCI) - Middle East Chapter, at the Embassy of Tanzania in Doha.
The meeting focused on exploring potential areas of collaboration in sustainable hunting; wildlife conservation—particularly on the conservation of mountain species and rare species programs with a view of protecting Tanzania’s rich biodiversity; and supporting community development initiatives in schools and villages.
H.E. Sheikh Abdullah expressed his appreciation to the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Embassy for their warm hospitality and productive discussions. He outlined several key areas of interest, including the acquisition of hunting blocks in Tanzania, support for conservation projects with a focus of protecting the country’s natural heritage and participation in corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes that will promote community development and support local initiatives at large.
H.E. Ambassador Awesi welcomed these initiatives and reaffirmed the Embassy’s readiness to facilitate engagement and provide timely feedback following consultations with the relevant authorities in Tanzania. He also highlighted the country’s vast investment opportunities, particularly in halal tourism and oil and gas exploration in both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar—areas that also drew keen interest from Sheikh Abdullah.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in sustainable hunting and wildlife conservation, recognizing the sector’s vital role in promoting mutual understanding, sustainable practices, and the visibility of Tanzania’s rich natural heritage across the Middle East and beyond.
This meeting marks a significant milestone in the growing partnership between the United Republic of Tanzania and the Safari Club International (SCI) - Middle East Chapter, paving the way for deeper collaboration in conservation projects, sustainable tourism and responsible investment.
