His Excellency Habibu Awesi Mohamed, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to the State of Qatar, held a productive meeting with Her Excellency Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al Thani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour of the State of Qatar. The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Doha, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in labour and employment matters.
Ambassador Awesi conveyed his sincere gratitude and deepest appreciation to the State of Qatar, with special acknowledgment to the Ministry of Labour, for the employment opportunities extended to Tanzanian nationals. He announced that 800 Tanzanian drivers will be interviewed through Mowasalat Karwa on 22nd  to 25th May 2025 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Additionally, the Ambassador requested support in facilitating the issuance of visas for those who will successfully pass the interview.
In response, H.E. Sheikha Najwa confirmed the Ministry’s willingness to facilitate the visa allocation process and extended support for upcoming employment initiatives. She also noted that the Ministry would communicate the appropriate time for convening a technical assessment meeting to review and update the bilateral labour agreement between Tanzania and Qatar.
Furthermore, H.E. Sheikha Najwa announced that the Labour Mobility Dialogue between the African Union (AU) and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, along with Jordan and Lebanon, will take place in Tanzania in December 2025. This high-level dialogue presents an important opportunity for Tanzania to engage in further bilateral discussions on labour and employment issues with participating nations.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the Tanzania-Qatar relationship, emphasizing shared goals of economic development and improving the welfare of their citizens at large.
