The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (MP), met with Mr. Ramez Al Khayyat, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Power Holding International, to explore strategic investment opportunities in Tanzania under Vision 2050. Discussions focused on tourism and real estate, oil and gas/LNG, and mining and critical minerals. Power Holding International is a diversified international group with approximately 400 companies, 65,000 employees in 25 countries and USD 15 billion in assets under management.
The meeting highlighted opportunities in luxury resorts, coastal and island tourism, high-end real estate, oil and gas development, LNG, and critical minerals including nickel, graphite, lithium and palladium. Emphasis was placed on value addition, technology transfer and employment creation, alongside strategic infrastructure such as ports, pipelines, airports, hydropower, roads, railways and electricity networks.
A key outcome was Power Holding International’s interest in deploying a dedicated team to Tanzania for a 60-day assessment to identify viable projects and develop a pipeline of bankable investments. The company also presented its “Bridge” investment platform for project structuring and capital mobilisation. Tanzania will facilitate engagement with TISEZA, ZIPA and relevant sector authorities. The assessment is expected to advance the discussions towards concrete investment proposals and long-term Tanzania–Qatar partnerships, supporting value addition, job creation, technology transfer and sustainable economic growth under Vision 2050.
