The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (MP), met with the Chief Executive Officer of Sidra Medicine in Doha to explore cooperation in women’s and pediatric healthcare, medical training, institutional capacity building and specialised health infrastructure, particularly the proposed women’s and pediatric facility in Dodoma.
The discussions focused on training and capacity building, specialist exchanges, clinical referrals, technical cooperation and hospital management, drawing on Sidra Medicine’s expertise in specialised women’s and children’s healthcare. Tanzania expressed interest in leveraging this expertise in developing the proposed Dodoma facility, targeted for completion by 2030.
The two sides also explored multi-partner financing, including potential support from the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), the Government of Tanzania and development partners. The meeting laid a foundation for a structured Tanzania–Sidra cooperation framework to advance specialised healthcare, skills development and institutional capacity. The immediate priority is to translate the discussions into concrete programmes and practical cooperation, particularly for the Dodoma facility.
