On 20th April, 2026, H.E. Habibu Awesi Mohamed held a high-level bilateral meeting with H.E. Dr. Ahmad M. Hasnah at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Doha. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Tanzanian and Qatari higher education institutions, particularly in academic exchange, research, scholarships, and cultural diplomacy, including the promotion of Kiswahili language programmes.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration between HBKU and leading Tanzanian universities, namely University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), University of Dodoma (UDOM), and State University of Zanzibar (SUZA). Discussions also highlighted Tanzania’s development priorities, including cooperation with the Qatar Fund for Development in the health sector and ongoing efforts to expand access to education.
The meeting underscored the strong and growing bilateral relations between Tanzania and Qatar, with both parties agreeing to expedite the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding and to explore further collaboration in education, labour mobility, and cultural exchange.
