His Excellency Habibu Awesi Mohamed, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to the State of Qatar, held a meeting with the management of Mowasalat (Karwa) at the company’s headquarters in Doha on the 14th of September, 2025.
The meeting reviewed the outcomes of the most recent recruitment exercise, conducted between late July and early August 2025, which successfully enabled the employment of about 500 Tanzanian drivers to operate heavy buses and trucks in Qatar. Both parties acknowledged challenges encountered during the process and agreed on measures to ensure smoother implementation in the future.
Mowasalat – Karwa confirmed plans to expand employment opportunities for Tanzanian nationals, announcing the recruitment of approximately 600–700 heavy bus drivers and 100 technicians between December 2025 and January 2026. Technician roles will cover areas among other mechanics, electrical works, automotive maintenance, and cooling systems. A Mowasalat team will travel to Tanzania during this period to conduct oral and practical driving tests for shortlisted candidates.
To guide the upcoming recruitment exercise, the two sides agreed on the following roadmap:
1. Mowasalat will issue a formal job demand letter to the Embassy of Tanzania.
2. The Embassy will provide a list of Tanzanian recruitment agencies to facilitate the process.
3. Recruitment will be carried out directly between Mowasalat and Tanzanian agencies, without the involvement of Qatari intermediaries.
4. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be developed to strengthen collaboration between Tanzania’s National Institute of Transport (NIT) and the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) to prepare candidates in advance.
5. A working visit by Tanzanian representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, President’s Office – Zanzibar, NIT, and VETA to Mowasalat will be organized for further consultations, knowledge exchange, and to align on driver requirements.
Ambassador Awesi and the management of Mowasalat reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening Tanzania–Qatar relations, enhancing economic cooperation, and creating new employment opportunities that benefit the citizens of both nations.
