Dar es Salaam.  President John Magufuli said Tanzania will open its embassy in Qatar to help promote and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

He said the relations would focus more on the development of natural gas, tourism, air transport and communications sectors.

According to statement released by State House acting head of Directorate of Communication, Mr Gerson Msigwa, the President made the revelation after he held talks with Qatar ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Abdallah Jassim Al Maadadi.

He asked the ambassador to convey his message to the leader of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, as well as the Qatar business community that Tanzania has plenty of investment opportunities that could benefit both countries.

He cited availability of more than 57 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and the plan of revamping the nation’s Air Tanzania Company Limited .
“Qatar is experienced in these areas and we, as Tanzania, would like to cooperate with you in investing and exchanging experience so that those opportunities could benefit both sides,”  President Magufuli said.

For his part, the Qatari ambassador said Tanzania embassy in Qatar would cement bilateral relations between the two countries.
