A delegation from the United Republic of Tanzania’s Ministry of Works, along with representatives from the private sector, is currently participating in Project Qatar 2025: Construction and Manufacturing Exhibition, taking place from May 26 to 29, 2025, in Doha.
As part of their official program in Doha, Qatar, on 28th May 2025, the Tanzanian delegation held a high-level meeting at the headquarters of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) with Mr. Mohamed Mahdi Ajayan Al-Ahbabi, a Board Member of QCCI and Chairman of IBN Ajayan Projects.
The Tanzanian delegation was led by Eng. Peter J. Sikalumba, Principal Engineer at the Ministry of Works, and included Senior Officials from the Ministry of Works, representatives from the Embassy of Tanzania in Qatar, and private sector stakeholders from Joint Consult Limited and Nyakwe Enterprises Ltd from Dar es Salaam.
The purpose of the meeting was to pay a courtesy call to the Chamber and explore areas of potential collaboration in infrastructure development. Specific areas discussed included road construction, real estate, airport infrastructure, electricity networking, and power distribution. The delegation also proposed cooperation in ongoing Qatari projects and the inclusion of Tanzanian professionals and contractors, particularly in knowledge transfer and capacity building for local engineers, quantity surveyors, architectures, consultants, contractors, technicians and casual labour.
Mr. Al-Ahbabi welcomed the initiative and encouraged the Tanzanian delegation to submit a detailed list of infrastructure projects opportunities for their consideration and further engagements. He pledged to facilitate connections with relevant members of the Chamber who are active in similar fields. Both parties agreed on the importance of long-term cooperation in project development, financing, and technical skill enhancement.
This engagement underscores the growing interest in building strong bilateral ties between Tanzania and Qatar in the construction and infrastructure sectors.
