Doha, Qatar
The United Republic of Tanzania and the State of Qatar have explored opportunities for investment cooperation in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and strategic infrastructure following a meeting between H.E. Shariff A. Shariff, Minister for Investment of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad bin Faisal Al-Thani, Chief Executive Officer of the Qatar Free Zones Authority, in Doha. Tanzania presented investment opportunities in agriculture, critical minerals, pharmaceutical manufacturing, tourism and the blue economy, including opportunities in Zanzibar and Dodoma.
The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between Tanzania’s Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA), Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA) and the Qatar Free Zones Authority, particularly in investment facilitation, development of investor-ready industrial sites, infrastructure and private sector participation. Both sides also explored cooperation in port logistics, free-zone connectivity and transport corridors, with potential technical engagements between the Tanzania Ports Authority and Qatari port operators.
As a follow-up, the parties identified technical consultations, potential investor visits to Dodoma and Zanzibar, and engagement with relevant government institutions to advance the proposed areas of cooperation. The meeting provided an opportunity to promote Tanzania’s investment potential and explore partnerships with Qatari investors in industrial development, logistics and strategic infrastructure, subject to further technical assessments and approvals by the relevant authorities.
