On 19th October, 2025, His Excellency Habibu Awesi Mohamed, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania in the State of Qatar met with His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Ghanim Al-Thani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Doha.  The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations through various collaborative initiatives in the fields of investment, capacity building, religious and education support between the two friendly countries.
His Excellency Ambassador Awesi expressed his gratitude and appreciation to His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Khalid for his warm welcome which led to productive discussions. He delivered the message and brotherly greetings from H.E. Dr. Hussein Ali Hassan Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council and outlined potential areas of cooperation between the United Republic of Tanzania and the State of Qatar including, the potential halal tourism investment in Zanzibar by Retaj Hotels and Hospitality in which the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs own majority of shares, facilitation of the submitted Memorandum of Understanding in the Field of Endowments and Islamic Affairs which covers significance initiatives to promote educational exchanges and programs to enhance religious studies in the country and mutual investment.
In his submission, the Ambassador suggested a project proposal which will cater for various socio-economic development projects having the potential to eventually benefit not only the communities in need but also sustain welfare of the Islamic (madaaris) teachers on the islands. 
The Ambassador also seized the opportunity to extend an official invitation to His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Khalid to undertake a working visit to Tanzania and participate in the upcoming Quran Competition which will be held in the country as Guest of Honour. 
In his response, H.E. Sheikh Dr. Khalid thanks the Ambassador for the visit and welcomed the alluded initiatives and reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with Zanzibar and the United Republic of Tanzania as a whole to strengthen the existing bilateral relations and foster cooperation between the two friendly countries. He also underscored the importance of exploring other potential areas of collaboration and exchanging views on matters of mutual interest.
Consequently, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue communication and coordination between the respective offices which will ensure the successful implementation of the proposed potential areas of cooperation.
